UI Police provide update on Sept. 25 Hawk Alert

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8:14 p.m., the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a Hawk Alert to campus notifying recipients of a report of an older white male with a knife wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants in the vicinity of Catlett Residence Hall. A follow-up communication sent at 8:44 p.m. clarified the man was seen outside the main (third floor) entrance of Catlett.

University of Iowa officials received a report of a sexual assault that occurred during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, Sept. 5, at an east side residence hall. Indications are the assault was perpetrated by an acquaintance.

Campus Safety Advisory - Aug. 15, 2018

In the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware that on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2019, at approximately 1:09 a.m., the Iowa City Police Department responded to the report of an assault that possibly occurred in the 700 block of E. Washington St. The victim was reportedly grabbed and forced to the ground, before getting free and running to safety.

The suspect is described as a 19 to 25-year-old, white male with silver/blonde hair. He was reportedly wearing a blue V-neck American Eagle shirt, khaki shorts and weighed 150-160 lbs.

Community invited to attend training on implicit bias

The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety, Iowa City Police Department and Iowa City branch of the NAACP are partnering to host a community training to reduce the influence of implicit biases.

The training will be conducted by the UI Department of Public Safety on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the University Capitol Centre (UCC) room 2520D on 200 S. Capitol Street. Parking is available at the Capitol Street parking garage adjacent to the Old Capitol Town Centre. 

Key & Access Services to join UI Department of Public Safety

In an effort to enhance campus safety efforts, Facilities Management Key & Access Services will become a part of the Department of Public Safety on July 1, 2018. 

“Integrating DPS and Key & Access Services presents a unique opportunity to leverage the exceptional talent in both departments to create a more integrated and efficient security operation for the entire campus,” says Scott Beckner, assistant vice president and director for the UI Department of Public Safety. 

UIPD issues Crime Alert 18-02

On April 11, 2018, at 8:10 p.m., University of Iowa Police received a report of a burglary in Slater Residence Hall. The report stated that four males were observed trying to enter unlocked doors inside the residence hall. The suspects were able to gain entry into several unlocked rooms, and money was stolen. The suspects fled when they were discovered by a resident. UI Police have identified possible suspects, but would like residents to double check their rooms to ensure none of their personal items have been stolen.
