UI Police share update on Feb. 28 Hawk Alert

Yesterday evening at 10:58 p.m., the University of Iowa Police Department received a call from a student on campus who reported that he heard a loud noise that sounded like multiple gun shots outside his room in Currier Residence Hall. 

UI Police responded immediately to Currier, arriving at 10:59 p.m., and quickly determined there was no indication that shots had been fired. Out of an abundance of caution, police expanded their investigation in the area to further confirm there was no threat, and additional area law enforcement continued to arrive on scene. 

UIPD issues Public Safety Advisory

Even though this incident occurred off campus, in the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware that on Saturday, January 20th, a female victim reported that a male offered her a ride to her residence hall when she was leaving a business located downtown Iowa City at approximately 2 a.m. The victim reported the male suspect instead drove the her to another location where he sexually assaulted her before driving her to her residence hall.

UIPD issues Crime Alert 17-17

University of Iowa officials received a report of a sexual assault that occurred last weekend at an east side residence hall. Indications are the assault was perpetrated by an acquaintance. The only person responsible for sexual misconduct is the perpetrator. It is a violation of university policy to engage in sexual activities without clear consent from your partner. Someone incapacitated due to alcohol or drugs cannot consent to sexual activity. A student or employee in violation of University of Iowa's sexual misconduct policies (https://osmrc.uiowa.edu/policy) faces sanctions up to and including expulsion or termination.

UIPD Issues Crime Alert

The university received two separate sexual assault reports. Both victims were assaulted while attending a party located off-campus in Iowa City during the late-night hours of Saturday, October 28th or the early-morning hours of Sunday, October 29th, 2017. To protect the victims, no additional details are being released at this time that may inadvertently identify them or hinder an investigation.

UIPD Issues Crime Alert

On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at about 12:30 a.m., the Iowa City Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at an ATM in the 100 block of South Clinton St. The victim was using the ATM to obtain cash when the suspect stood close behind her and grabbed her hand and took the money when the cash was distributed. No weapons were displayed. The suspect was described as a male wearing a camouflage V-neck, gray jeans, and a Gucci wristlet. Bystanders intervened and the suspect ran away. In a separate incident on Monday, October 23, 2017 at about 5:30 a.m., residents in an east side residence hall awoke to find a male standing in their room. The residents yelled at the person and they left the room. The suspect was described as a male, with a medium build and dark hair wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and gym shoes.
