Iowa City police seek suspect in Saturday evening robbery

On February 12 at approximately 1:13 a.m., Iowa City Police received a report of a strong-armed robbery at 22 S. Van Buren Street. The victim reported being approached by two men who demanded his phone and wallet. The suspects fled after taking an undisclosed amount of cash and were not located. One suspect was described as being about 6 feet tall with a muscular build, short buzzed hair and wearing a white and navy blue crew neck shirt. The other suspect was also described to be about 6 feet tall, with light brown scruffy hair.

Student security officer program advances community policing efforts

Though the department historically has employed a handful of students each semester to help with security-related duties, it hopes to hire about 125 students to help with building checks, dorm patrol, fingerprinting, athletic events, and other special events. The program also will feature opportunities for students to advance to supervisory positions to assist with additional daily operations.

UIPD Issues Crime Alert

On February 1 at approximately 2:22 a.m., Iowa City Police received a report of a robbery at the 10 block of S. Dubuque Street. The victim reported being approached by three men who demanded money. The suspects then assaulted the victim and took personal property before fleeing the area. No weapon was displayed. The suspects were not located by police.
