UIPD Issues Crime Alert

On Tuesday, November 29th 2016, University of Iowa Police received a report of an assault. The victim told police they arrived at the Hawkeye Storage/Commuter Lot between 9 and 9:30 p.m. on the Cambus to pick up their car. The victim reported that two males got off the bus at the same stop, and that as the victim approached their car they were hit from behind. The victim believes they were attacked by one person, but the attack may have been interrupted by another person. The victim did not see the attacker. After the brief assault, the suspect(s) ran away. The victim then got in their car and drove away, later reporting the incident to police shortly after 10:30 p.m.

UIPD issues Crime Alert 16-15

On November 13, 2016, University of Iowa Police received a report from a resident of a west side residence hall. The report stated that, at about 12:20 a.m. on November 13, 2016, the resident awoke after hearing a person enter the room. The resident believes the door was locked, but later checked the door to find it was not. The resident noticed some property was taken from the room and called police. Upon investigation, the police officer did not find any signs of forced entry into the room. UI Police strongly encourage all residence hall occupants to lock their doors at all times and to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1. Security of rooms in residence halls is a joint effort between residents, roommates, staff, and University Police.

The report stated that, at about 12:20 a.m. on November 13, 2016, the resident awoke after hearing a person enter the room. The resident believes the door was locked, but later checked the door to find it was not. The resident noticed some property was taken from the room and called police. Upon investigation, the police officer did not find any signs of forced entry into the room.

The report stated that, at about 2:00 a.m. on November 8, 2016, the resident awoke to find an unknown male in the room. The next day, a roommate noticed dresser drawers had been opened and things had been moved, but nothing was taken. There was no sign of forced entry into the room. The subject was described as tall and skinny. UI Police strongly encourage all residence hall occupants to lock their doors at all times and to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1.

The next day, a roommate noticed dresser drawers had been opened and things had been moved, but nothing was taken. There was no sign of forced entry into the room. The subject was described as tall and skinny.

Dear Members of the UI community,

Early this morning the University of Iowa Housing & Dining staff was notified of a racist remark written on a student's door at Burge Residence Hall. They immediately notified UI Police and an investigation is underway.

If anyone has any information relating to this incident, please contact the University of Iowa Police Department at (319) 335-5022. If the individual(s) responsible are identified, appropriate actions will be taken.

The University of Iowa received a report of a sexual assault that occurred in the late night hours of October, 29th, 2016, at an east side residence hall. The report indicates the assault was perpetrated by an acquaintance. The only person responsible for sexual misconduct is the perpetrator. It is a violation of university policy to engage in sexual activities without clear consent from your partner. Someone incapacitated due to alcohol or drugs cannot consent to sexual activity.
