The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety Security Division is made up of nineteen Public Safety Security Officers, one Security Division Supervisor and one Security Division Manager. Each Security Officer must complete more than fifty hours of coursework to become a Certified Protection Officer through the International Foundation of Protection Officers within six months of their hiring. All Public Safety Security Officers are CPR, AED and First Aid certified.
Responsible for patrolling residence halls and academic buildings throughout the night, the Security Division provides a variety of auxiliary services for the Department of Public Safety, including inspecting Code Blue Emergency Phones, operating Lost and Found, providing Fingerprint Services and security for the University of Iowa Museum of Art. Officers from the Security Division also operate the safe ride service known as NITE RIDE. Security Officers work numerous special events throughout the year, including football, basketball, commencements and dignitary visits.
The Security Division also has Student Security Officer positions that assist with security at the University of Iowa Museum of Art.
