Process

Notice

In order to ensure the availability of Campus Safety staff to work your event, we require a minimum of 14 days advance notice.

Cost

Because special event staffing is beyond the scope of day-to-day duties, officers and security staff must be paid overtime rates. Each employee makes a different rate of pay, so we can only estimate the cost once we have a request form that includes information about your specific needs.

Events will be charged a minimum of three hours for each officer regardless of the minimum hours requested.

Cancellation

To cancel staffing for an event, call 319-335-5022 and ask for the watch commander. Be prepared to provide your name, contact information, the name of your event, the date and time of your event, and the reason for the cancellation. The watch commander will inform the Campus Safety staff scheduled to work the event.

If the cancellation notice occurs more than 24 hours in advance, the sponsors will not be charged. However, if cancellation is given less than 24 hours in advance, or the event is canceled without notice, event sponsors could be charged up to a maximum of three hours per person scheduled to work the event.

Important Reminders

  • The primary role of Campus Safety staff assigned to your event is to provide a reasonably safe and secure environment.
  • Our team will work collaboratively with event sponsors to help the event proceed safely without incident.
  • If an incident (accident, injury, disruption, crime etc.) occurs, the officer will take action or summon the necessary assistance to respond to the incident.
  • Campus Safety staff are prohibited from performing the following duties for your event:
    • Ticket taking or seat ushering
    • Carding or identifying individuals to verify their university status and/or that they are above the legal drinking age
    • Collection of ticket moneys
